Sadie's first birthday party.

I thought I should probably start blogging about her first party before I have to start planning her second one. Growing up my mom always threw such great birthday parties for us and I thought it would be a lot of fun to throw one for my own little one. It was a lot of fun. We went with a mexican/duck theme. We had mexican music that you might find in an authentic mexican restraunt, horchata (not sure anyone appreciated it as much as us), pin the mustache on the mexican duck, duck pinata, and nachos.

waiting for our guests to arrive

Sadie and all her buds.

I told Mark I wanted a pinata for the party, so Mark made this duck
pinata all by himself, from scratch. Sadie's first word besides mama
and dada was duck. She loves ducks, so it was only appropriate that
he made her a duck pinata. Well, she became quite attached to the duck.
in the morning she would come downstairs and right away would want
to go see her duck that daddy made her. This is what happened...Sadie wondering why we are tying a rope around her duck's neck.

Not quite sure why mommy is making her hit her friend duck with a
baseball bat.

wanting poor duck to come back down to her where it is safe.

...and then the mayhem begins: brutal beatings of poor duck and then his
poor guts splatter all over the floor. Sadie was shocked that her friends would kill
her duck whom she had grown so fond of, shocked that they would laugh and
smile in excitement of seeing her guts spewn across the floor, shocked that
her parents would allow such cruelty. The result...
A fragile, heartbroken Sadie. Truly have we never seen her this
upset. She would scream and then look at me and then scream
and so on and so on.
What a tender heart she has.

R.I.P Duck
Present time!

Sadie loves babies and was very excited about her new baby stroller. What a
little mamma.

Not quite sure how to go about eating this cake.

You are so talented Ashely (& Mark)! I am so thrilled you went with the underrated duck/Mexican theme for your sweetie's 1st birthday! It truly is so cute:) The tender duck story gone bad will keep me entertained for days. Sadie is so cute! Where did you get her matching skirt/headband? She looks adorable. Good job Olsen clan!! BTW, Nick is obsessed with horchata.

"Sadie is silly. How come she bit the cake without it cut up? I wish Daddy could make me a pinata!" --Annie
"I want to say that Sadie is cute."--Katherine
"I love Sadie" --Lizzie

I laughed so hard at the sadness. Its something I could see my girls doing. (they cry at Milo and Otis, Guliver's Travels, Dumbo, and any tender movie). We can't wait to see you again!
