As many of you know, the weather has been off and on lately, and winter has really been hanging around. What a drag. But finally we had some decent weather so we took the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong dream which I acquired 2 years ago: to go on a family bike ride from Mt. Vernon to Washington, DC. We borrowed a bike for Ashley and a trailer for Sadie (who apparently weighs a ton). Other than some miscalculations, the ride was awesomely exciting and a great family experience. Riding through Alexandria was very cool, and riding across the I-395 bridge and landing at the cherry blossom festival was very patriotic. Pulling a huge trailer on a road bike without my clip shoes (oops) became increasingly painful, and riding 32 miles and spending so many hours in the saddle without any training or preparation turned out to be our ultimate demise (notice we didn't document the last half of the trip). And now we are paying the price. I am currently looking n ebay for a bedpan for Ashley so she doesn't have to use her legs for the next few days...
We think Sadie had a good time. But we'll make her be a team player and get her own bike next time.

I'm sure our local hospital would be happy to give you a bedpan, Mark. Check into that.
What a fun thing to do as a family! I really want to go up there this year, but we'll be driving. No sense of adventure in this family. :)
That is so fun! Ashley, what bike did you use? That totally looks like so much fun. I have always wanted to go.
dude, thats incredible
Loved the video, especially your spread eagle bike move at the end, Ash. We would have loved to do that w/ you guys. But I'm glad I still have use of my lower extremities.
SWEET!! Bummer that we couldn't make it. That looks like tons of fun though.

I think it's time Sadie pulls her own weight, I'm glad to hear next time she'll be a team player. Sounds like Julia and I's hike to White Lake, we ended up sun burned and immobile for a week. Good luck with that Ashley, if you need me to send you some bedpans, I'd be happy to. Love ya guys!

Who would have thought Olsen could make it that far on a bike pulling a baby. Hard to imagine! Glad you had fun!
Wow that looks like fun! I bet your butt hurt! I miss being there for the cherry blossoms! Miss you guys!
