Halloween Olsen Style

This Halloween, you might say that we took it easy. This year, there was no award-winning chili, no first-place jack-o-lanterns, no intricately hand-sewn elaborate felt costumes. Not like last year. But don't worry. We were still able to feel the spirit of Halloween. We did it as a family. We felt the spirit through crying babies, dirty diapers, and 20 minutes of driving just to find a decent trick-or-treating spot. For some reason our neighborhood, which is usually crawling with kids, was dark, desolate, and deserted on Halloween. I think I saw a tumbleweed roll by. There was one nice family passing out candy to spread halloween cheer, luckily( apparently the "wave" of trick-or-treaters came around 9:30 in the form of some teenagers with lame masks asking for candy).
Sadie really got into it this year, which was really fun. We had prepped her for a few weeks about her kitty-cat tutu and costume, so she was pretty excited. We also drilled her on saying "trick or treat" at the doors. We probably should have practiced a few more times because she still got a little shy. One thing she was not shy about was taking candy from strangers. She picked up on this pretty quickly, and while the kind folks were reaching out to put candy into her bucket, Sadie reached in and grabbed some more to help out. So that was a pretty big hit with her, and by the end of the night she was happy to say "trick or treat" for some candy.

Our cute little Cat Princess and Skeleton.

Cutest cat ever!! Ashley made the tutu back in September and Sadie has been wearing it and talking about her kitty cat tutu non stop. The whole tutu thing started when Sadie found a picture of Ashley's little sister wearing a tutu and Sadie couldn't stop talking about Abbey's tutu. So Ashley decided to make her one and she loves that thing.

Showing the ropes of an effective door approach.

A few days before Halloween we carved pumpkins. Of course Sadie was a big fan this year and loves anything to do with pumpkins. Sadie was hanging on for dear life, it was so sweet.

Naturally, as a man it was my job to cut the pumpkins, and the girls were in charge of the dirty work. Sadie picked up exactly one seed and placed it in the bowl. Other than that, she was happy to watch Mommy do it.

Our family...and our pumpkin family: the twins.

On tuesday we went to the ward Trunk or Treat. We are pretty sure that this is where Sadie got into the spirit of candy.

A lost kitty in search of candy.

shoveling as much sugar into her body as possible

Sadie being weird.

Sadie loves her friend Kennedy, she always looks for her when we go to church and asks about her.

Good job on the tutu, Ashley! I don't blame Sadie for loving it... I wish I could just wear a tutu around, it would make my day so much more fun. Anyway, I also love the pose London's doing in the first pic. Way funny and cute.

I enjoyed the picture about Mark showing Sadie the ropes of the door approach the best. Hilarious.
I can't wait for Covey to get into the holidays like Sadie. And yes, Julia wasn't kidding, she's a tutu fanatic!

Hi, I hope this isn't creepy, but I am a 4th year HPSP dental student at the University of Oklahoma. I just found out that I have been accepted to the AEGD at Eglin next year. I searched google for "Eglin AFB AEGD" and your blog came up. When I saw it I immediately thought...these people are LDS. Well, so are we and I was so hoping to be able to talk to an lds family who is at Eglin right now. My name is Keith Mehner, my wife's name is Stephanie. We have a 2 year old named Luke and are 6 weeks pregnant with our second. I would love to ask you some questions some time. My e-mail is stephandkeith@gmail.com. we have a blog, too, but we don't update it all that often. stephandkeith.blogspot.com
